This page houses 11 photographs
kindly sent to me by Leslie L. of California,
who found them in a photo album bequeathed by
her father-in-law, Leo Bennett. According
to the writing on the album, the photographs
were taken by "1st Class Marine Corps Bugler
George Schahoffer (or Schaeffer) on the
battleground of the Nicaraguan Rebellion around
Chinandega & vicinity in early spring of 1928."
The contents of the photos and a brief exchange
with Leslie indicate that they
were most likely taken from February to May 1927.
Grateful appreciation is extended to Leslie L.
for her generosity in sharing these photos.
Warning:
this page contains gruesome photographs of
charred and decomposing corpses.

Liberal rebels did not have a
"garrison" in Chinandega 1927. Nor
did the Liberals win the battle.
This is probably a Liberal rebel outpost
somewhere on the outskirts of
Chinandega, perhaps before the big
battle of early February.
