the Finca of C. Hastram on the Pis Pis
trail, reaching Tuma at 0230, 11 April
1928.
2. Juan Dormas, who lives on
the Tuma - Caratera trail, reports that
he was robbed by a band of about 150 men
under command of Manuel Mana JIRON
[Manuel María Girón] on 2 April 1928 of
merchandise valued at $221.50 and of
cattle and horses valued at about
200.oo. He states that his
brother-in-law, Gregorio Rostran was
taken prisoner and forced to act as
guide until the following morning when
he was released.
3. Ulysis Le Claire, who
lives on the Corinto - Guasaca trail,
states that the same night he was robbed
of horses, mules, provisions and
merchandise valued at $500.00. The
robbery was committed by a band of about
150 men under command of Jiron. He
states that they had 6 or 8 men tied up
as prisoners, and that they robbed about
8 or 10 fincas in his neighborhood. They
killed the Lieutenant of Police of
Caratera. They were all mounted, with
extra horses, and had plenty of
ammunition. They had one Thompson
Sub-machine gun. JIRON had as Colonel
one PEDRO Moncada. Le Claire is of the
opinion that his troops are not
Nicaraguans, but are from El Salvador.
4. Three Hastram brother, Le
Claire, the Jefe of Caratera, and other
responsible natives are all positive
that JIRON with his men is now encamped
at YAUSCA [Yasica], and that he has been
making raids into adjacent country for
supplies, he having raided a town called
BABASCA on Thursday, 5 April, when he
sacked the town and killed 5 natives.
