Street
scene in Port-au-Prince, Haiti
|
Urban street scene with pedestrians, an automobile,
and workers digging up the street, probably
Port-au-Prince, Haiti — suggested by the
architecture; the street sign on the
building at far left, which seems to
read "PLACE VALIÈRE" (a plaza in
Port-au-Prince); the two surnames on the
business signs (Sperduto and Cordasco,
prominent families in Port-au-Prince at
the time); and the apparently African
phenotype of the people. Thanks to
José Mejía Lacayo for his eagle eye and
incisive observations on this
photograph, at first erroneously
identified here as someplace in
Nicaragua.
